In it, two teams of up to 32 players each battle it out for supremacy on huge virtual battlefields, taking the fight to one another on foot, in a vehicle, on sea, and in the air. good lord.By clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot'sĬontrary to its name, Battlefield 2 is actually the third game in the Battlefield series, and, on the surface, it sticks closely to the formula established in the previous two games. Imagine that intense moment when the map starts, boats are trying to land on the coast while defenders are raining hell on them. US had an aircraft carrier where they would launch their assault.

The TV tower would be the main base for Chinese: that flag grants an attack chopper for them. Imagine if Siege of Shanghai was Conquest Assault: Chinese controlled every single flag, but there wouldn't be uncapturable flags for them. Maps would be MUCH better if they were Conquest Assault. I disliked normal Conquest in previous BFs, and I don't like it currently either. Then what does BF4 have? Capturing the main flag grants you a crappy missile for your commander? Or even worse, gunship? No, those things aren't worth fighting for.Ĭonquest: Assault had it's faults: if defending teams has only one flag left, it would end up being a massive farm for defending team: I still have traumas from Wake Island NE flag when three enemy jets are raining down bombs while the chopper is spinning around the flag. you actually feel like you've done something really important for your team: and you actually did!

That feel when you take back TV tower or that airbase. I had a great blast in B2K: it actually felt like some of the captures really mattered. Conquest feels more like running from flag to flag instead of capturing and holding key areas. Because there is no "defending" team who has a capturable main base, battles aren't so intense. Most of the popular BF2 maps were Conquest: Assault, and for a good reason.

The one thing that REALLY lacks in BF3&BF4 map designs is the lack of Conquest: Assault.

Waiting for second assault gulf of oman with sandstorm limiting the visibility to test if it's more fun to play with a more limited visibility to keep combat more focused for infantry. I'm curious on what you guys think or if you have pros and cons for each.īF4 has some good maps, but maybe I just don't like the openness of them and generally just play vehicles because of it. I don't know, maybe it is nostalgia that makes them better, but I just preferred BF2 maps to pretty much all BF3 and BF4 maps. Actually, just go and look at all the BF2 maps and compare them to current maps. BF4 wanted naval combat and they gave paracel storm, but if you compare paracel storm to Operation clean sweep I think we can say which one would best for naval/infantry/vehicle warfare. For examle, Dragon pass and FuShe pass were canyon based maps, quite linear, but made for a lot of cool battles. If you compare the map designs to BF2, there were plenty of varied map layouts. I realize that the fog was put there as an engine limitation for it to not have to render distant target, but it sort of made being infantry less of a suicide in more armor focused maps. You can just be sniped by anyone from anywhere most of the time. And in most battlefield 3-4 maps, you feel very vulnerable as infantry, since there is no fog or forests or hills restricting your view from across the map. I personally think that BF2 didn't have a single bad map and they were all very varied in shapes and sizes, even within the level there were often multiple different kind of areas.īF3 and 4 do have some good maps, but when you take most of the levels, it's like they all started on a giant square, added 5-7 flags relatively close to each other and just have a lot of empty map space for nothing.
